"Joya , the New York fragrance design company, and Portland-based Pendleton Woolen Mills, come together to design a range of candles as part of their new apparel and accessory collection, Thomas Kay, named for the founder of the company. The new brand was crafted to celebrate the 150 year mark of Kay’s arrival in Oregon in 1863.
Three fragrances are available in the collection; “Cedar & Suede” (with notes of musk, saddle leather, damask rose, redwood chips and cedar leaf), “Wood Smoke” (with notes of Texas cedarwood, incense, birch tar, cade, thyme and vetiver) and “Mission Chai” (with notes of clove bud oil, ginger, Hawaiian sandalwood and cinnamon bark)."
'The Pendleton team focuses on quality and local craftsmanship,' noted Joya founder Frederick Bouchardy. 'The collection was a pleasure to create. The Thomas Kay scents are inspired by the idea of discovery, a new frontier,' says Bouchardy, 'and specifically, the warmth and organic comingling of sweetness and smokiness that characterize the Pacific Northwest.'
Each candle is packaged in a signature woolen bag with rawhide drawstring and custom Pendleton matchbox. The products are entirely made in the USA – even the matches.
'Joya understands the special nature of this collection honoring our founder, Thomas Kay, originating exclusive scents that capture the spirit of the Pendleton brand and the essence of the Northwest,' says E.K. MacColl, sixth generation family member and national sales manager for the Pendleton Men’s division. 'The candles are a unique addition to the collection and a truly special gift item. We chose Joya for these long and clean-burning soy and beeswax candles because of their premium quality and commitment to made in America product.' "
