The road towards Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in California has been a bumpy one.
Also known as SB 54, California’s EPR-style law is an ambitious attempt to reduce plastic pollution through frameworks that plastic producers must operate under, including specific reduction targets for different types of materials.
By 2032, single-use plastic packaging and food serving ware must be reduced by 25%, 65% must be recycled, and all single-use plastic packaging and food service ware must be either recyclable or eligible for compostable labeling.
