A hiatus is a pause or break from the normalcy of life, an extended timeout from the mundane. Hiatus is also the name of a new brand of non-alcoholic beer from Australia, inspired by sunny vacations while using “hiatus” to mean taking a break from booze as well.
“Hiatus Beer is for anyone who currently drinks non-alcoholic beer or is looking to take a break from alcohol—for a day, a week, a month, or just the next round,” explains Hiatus co-founder Nick Detmold. “It was incredibly important to us to develop a beer and brand that was inclusive, and beer drinkers and non-beer drinkers could enjoy. At the same time, we wanted a product that we, the founders and long-time beer and spirit industry participants, could drink and enjoy if we were having a day or week off alcohol or if we were having a ‘spacer’ drink before wine or beer to avoid layering alcohol on alcohol.”
