ArtCraft Launches an Open-Source, AI-Powered Alternative to Adobe’s Creative Cloud

A new open-source project called ArtCraft recently launched, promising to replace Adobe’s popular Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom, Acrobat, After Effects, and InDesign. The ArtCraft suite is available as native applications on Windows, Mac, and Linux, plus browser versions of PhotoCraft, VectorCraft, LightCraft, PdfCraft, EffectCraft, and DesignCraft.

Software engineer Brandon Thomas seeks to match Adobe’s software by year’s end. He is motivated by a common concern among the San Jose behemoth’s customers: expensive forever subscriptions for the applications they rely on to make a living. Thomas shares Adobe’s passion for AI and vibe-coded ArtCraft, using Anthropic’s Claude. Unsurprisingly, AI features are baked into ArtCraft, just like Adobe’s AI is integrated into Creative Cloud.
