As a country nestled right on the corner of the cradle of civilization, Turkey has been as a hub for some of the finest goods in the world for not just centuries, but millennia. While this well-cultivated reputation might not come up quite as much in the modernized western world, the old world hub still has a corner on the market for goods like incense, rugs, and especially sweets.
While the candies most immediately associated with Turkey come in the form of powdery gummies, why not chocolate? The brand Harem Chocolate may be barely old enough to drink in America, their sophisticated redesign from Studio Born gives them a classic, storied look. The resulting system is elegant, unified by the earthy desert palette of its sturdy boxes and shiny foils that wrap each piece of chocolate. The typography keeps up with current trends of soft, fairly understated serif, but with just enough extra curl to feel classically Middle Eastern. We especially love the bright, poppy tins with elegantly enameled illustrations of Turkish nobility enjoying the brand’s fine wares— because why not imagine they did?
