Matiz Makes Room for Imperfection in Its Ceramic Packaging

Handmade ceramics naturally carry small variations in shape, texture, and glaze, and Matiz, a conceptual ceramics studio, makes those imperfections the starting point for its packaging.

Designed by Valeriia Löffler, the soft clay pink boxes feature an irregular black wordmark that looks almost written into wet clay, alongside neatly arranged product labels that read like records from a ceramic workshop. Instead of relying on decorative illustrations, the design brings the artisanal process to life through marbled tissue paper that resembles swirling clay pigments, handwritten details, and little notes documenting each piece’s individual characteristics. Ceramic and dishware packaging often leans toward polished luxury or rustic craft aesthetics, but Matiz finds a lovely middle ground between contemporary minimalism and the charm of something handmade. There’s growing appreciation for tactile materials and imperfect design, and this system leans into that world.
