Student Week Project: Phoenix Candle Pods

by Shawn Binder on 07/21/2020 | 2 Minute Read

Nope, not a pod for your coffee machine.

These stunning pods are actually candles. The concept design for Phoenix Candles plays with the idea of coffee pods, as candles should be able to be refreshed and disposable as well. The patterns on the outside of the pods showcases the type of texture that the pod will take on after it's out of its container. The peel-away top is innovative in the candle space, allowing Phoenix to make the consumer's home smell different every day, depending on their mood.

"I was inspired by the idea of reusable consumption. There are candles in glass and ceramic bowls that are thrown out after they burn out. This concept presents the replaceable candle capsule that you place in a ceramic bowl with a unique shape.

Candles are packed in a metal capsule, similar to capsules for coffee machines. To open the capsule, you need to pull the tab off the lid.

I have developed four aromas with three different candle textures: smooth, ribbed and polka dot.

You can replace candles in a candlestick, changing the aroma and texture. After the candle burns out, you can open a new capsule and insert it into the bowl."
