Coca-Cola To Sell DASANI In Aluminum Cans

Move over, La Croix, there’s a new canned water in town.

Last week, Coca-Cola announced they’ll start selling DASANI water in aluminum cans as part of their continued effort to reduce plastic waste.

The cans are reminiscent of the DASANI’s plastic water bottle design, keeping the same logo but including blue as the text color in favor of the traditional white. Available in both pop-tab can and screw options, the sleek, silver vessels are pushing the corporation in the right direction with their plan to reduce all plastic-output by 50% by 2030.

The cans will launch in the Northeastern US in the coming months before expanding to other regions of the country in 2020.

“Today’s announcement is the largest sustainability initiative in the history of the DASANI brand,” said DASANI brand director Lauren King in a press release. The new DASANI cans will also feature How2Recycle labels to help educate and encourage consumers to recycle after use.

“It’s rooted in providing sustainable options for our consumers while doubling down on our commitment to minimize our impact on the environment,” King added. “Over the last decade, we’ve been on a journey to make DASANI more sustainable through new package design and innovation, and we are now accelerating these efforts in support of our company’s ambitious goals to reduce packaging waste significantly around the world by 2030.”

Although ideally, Coca-Cola would work a little more quickly to reduce its plastic output, we also recognize that it takes time to implement industry-wide innovations. The more large brands make an effort to change their packaging solutions, the more they pave the way for smaller corporations to begin production around sustainable practices.

We’ll pop a can or two of DASANI to celebrate.
