Give credit where credit is due—if you really want to know the latest and greatest food news in CPG, C-Stores, and QSRs, you should follow Snackolator. They often break stories in the CPG space by gorging on whatever latest fast-food delicacy or Hot Cheetos-dusted collab has dropped inside the confines of their automobile.
And it looks like they just got a pretty hefty scoop for a new gut-healthy drink. According to the social media account, Coca-Cola has entered the prebiotic soda chat and will release three zero-sugar flavors across three of its biggest flagship offerings: Coca-Cola, Sprite, and Fresca (OK, Fresca might not be one of their most-beloved brands outside of weirdos like me, but you get the drift).
From all appearances, the new drinks will be released in 12-oz cans. Design-wise, it feels mostly like a mashup of the Coca-Cola brands with a twist of Oliop, with simple, poppy (not a pun) illustrations and clear fiber callouts (6 grams, to be exact). The drink, of course, is set to compete with the aforementioned Olipop and Poppi, but hey, let’s throw Pepsi in the mix as well, because they similarly dropped a prebiotic drink last year, too.
Of course, this isn’t Coca-Cola’s first foray into prebiotic drinks, as last year they launched Simply Pop, a “healthier” extension of the Simply line. In the meantime, there is no official release date for the new Sprite, Coca-Cola, and Fresca prebiotic drinks, but we’d wager we’ll see them by year’s end.
