- Cheerios (General Mills) and Ziploc have partnered to release the Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal, the first resealable plastic inner liner designed inside a cereal box.
- The packaging debuted exclusively at Walmart with original Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios varieties, followed shortly by a nationwide retail rollout.
There are some packaging inconveniences you just learn to accept.
Two of the most notorious offenders are bacon and goat cheese, both of which come in completely useless sleeves destined for a Ziploc bag. Cereal has also long been a problem for many folks, with many tearing into the inner plastic bag with all the delicacy of a gorilla wearing Hulk hands, which almost always sends your cereal flying everywhere.
But it looks like one of those insidious packaging formats might have bitten the dust.
After hundreds of thousands of requests, Cheerios and Ziploc have joined forces to introduce the first resealable bag that comes inside a box of cereal. The Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal can now be found inside boxes of regular ol’ Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios.
The new bag is said to help keep cereal fresh and is easy to reseal (although I would prefer to be the judge of that, because not every bag is as resealable as some brands claim). The bag opens at the top and offers a convenient spout and likely beats having to roll the bag or clip it tightly, a fool’s errand when it comes to keeping your slightly sweetened grains at peak freshness.
“General Mills has received letters, emails and DMs asking for an easier way to reseal a cereal box, and we decided it was time to partner with the ultimate freshness brand: Ziploc,” said Emilie Knox, Vice President and Business Unit Director for Cheerios at General Mills, in a press release. “Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal™ takes a small, everyday cereal frustration and finally gives consumers the simple solution they’ve been asking for, making the whole routine easier and more enjoyable.”
Anywho, I guess this is bad news for chip clips. The new Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal bags are available exclusively at Walmart as of yesterday, with a national rollout expected in the next few months.
