Last month, when we reported on Mattel’s packaging misprint snafu that directed Wicked doll purchasers to an adult website, we all likely knew a concerned parent was waiting in the wings to seize the day and egregious amounts of money in the form of a lawsuit.
Well, just like some other industrious folks who took the porn-baiting dolls to eBay for some quick walking money, South Carolina mother Holly Ricketson has filed a class action lawsuit after purchasing a Wicked doll for her daughter, who was then shown images of hardcore pornography after visiting the adult website on an iPhone. Filed in a California federal court, the plaintiff seeks over $5 million in damages for emotional distress caused by the X-rated—and potentially costly—mistake.
For its part, Mattel apologized for the error last month and pulled the dolls from store shelves (and, no, AI wasn’t at fault), but the toymaker has yet to comment on the newly filed lawsuit.
