Calexo Is A Low-Dose Cannabis Beverage That Wants To Shift Your Perception

Last month, Calexo launched its first line of cannabis-infused beverages. The precisely-dosed sparkling drink contains 10mg of nano-emulsified THC and comes in two flavors, Citrus Rose and Cucumber Citron. Utilizing natural juices and botanicals, the idea was to create a beverage that paired well with the cannabis itself instead of trying to bury it underneath excessive flavoring.

Best of all, no waiting for it to kick in, as the onset period is a tidy 15 minutes.

According to the founders, they wanted to create a social drink that could fit in at a cocktail party, an alternative to beer and other spirits, intended to share amongst friends. Of course, this is no ordinary cannabis beverage, and the brand wanted to create “a state of mind.” Calexo turned to the Santa Monica-based design agency TRÜF for the branding, visual identity, and the packaging.

The agency, inspired by both Op Art and the landscape of California and Mexico, lays out rolling hills across the bottle’s label, punctuated by a lazy sunset. The colors for both flavors give off a sophisticated, warming sensation and highlight the desert flora you’d find along the California border. Most importantly, the designers paid close attention to the shape of the bottle and how the label would roll across it so that the desired optical effect could reveal itself, hopefully, while the drinker is not past the 15-minute marker.

Calexo retails around $20 per bottle and is available for delivery throughout Los Angeles. The drink will be available to the rest of California soon and will launch in Canada this fall.
