Folk Cuts a New Pattern for Light Beer

One can only hope that light beer packaging is loosening its grip on macho clichés, making room for identities built around craft, community, and a much wider lens for who gets invited to the table. 

Julia Liut’s Folk concept draws from Polish Wycinanki, custom handmade paper cutouts, with floral motifs cut from paper and scanned so their tiny imperfections remain visible on the can. The pixel-like FOLK lettering nods to traditional cross-stitch grids, pairing two crafts in a way that feels handmade without slipping into manufactured nostalgia. 

Where light beer often reaches for sports, mountains, or masculine posturing, Folk uses communal craft traditions to make the humble everyday beer look warm and refreshingly human. Julia Liut breaks down the student-initiated project below.
