Pack Of The Month: Kateřina Milatová Gives Pluto a Clear Orbit

Finding a perfume you enjoy can be daunting. Descriptors often verge on pretentiousness and say little about what it actually smells like, or use terms that people outside the fragrance world may not understand. In many categories, brands use packaging to convey what’s distinctive about the product inside. Still, it’s quite the opposite with perfume, where packaging might be stark and simply emblazoned with a logo and the scent’s name.

Pluto, our August Pack of the Month, takes a different approach, using the box to communicate what to expect scent-wise and visually. A student week feature, designer Kateřina Milatová created a packaging system that makes fragrance more accessible and approachable through a system of illustrations that describe the perfume in an easy-to-understand manner. Identifiable ingredients are sized by prominence, with casual descriptors that cover the needs of different perfume buyers.

Applying a functional concept in an attractive way to a category that’s long needed it is a breath of fresh air, and why Pluto is the Pack of the Month.
