We're suckers for any olive you throw at us, whether it's sinking to the bottom of a martini or anchoring an expansive cheese board. Mouse Graphic's latest work on Iliada's Snack Olive Bites pits the titular snack in a game of tic-tac-toe, though from all appearance, it looks like the olive's foe wasn't much of a worthy opponent.
If design is an ongoing exercise in communication, then it may be interesting to consider a game of tic-tac-toe, where sleek, globular olives make the winning alignments. Otherwise known as “noughts and crosses,” the game we know and love as “tic-tac-toe” provides the inspiration for the intended visual pun on Iliada’s Snack Olive Bites bags.
Mouse Graphics is the design team responsible for this curious and creatively formatted branding. With the goal being to create a vivid and memorable packaging surface, the team did just that.
By strategically combining the hand drawings of the tic-tac-toe game with the photos of the olives, the label works well to make consumer’s take that second glance when passing it on the grocery store shelves.
The information provided, as well as how it is formatted, is clear and concise and does not distract from the images depicted. This serves to incite a sense of lightness, which aligns with how you feel when you snack on the bag's delicious contents.
