Most people are going to end up interacting with some piece of plastic packaging during the day. Despite our best intentions, there’s likely going to be at least one piece of plastic generated from our consumption habits. That shouldn’t stop us, or brands, from reducing and eliminating plastic use, of course, but one personal care brand is adding another way to mitigate their customers’ plastic use.
Launching today, personal care brand by Humankind is offering a “Plastic, Neutral subscription, in addition to their refillable and plastic-free products. Under the program, consumers can subsidize the plastic collection efforts of Plastic Bank, an organization that buys collected plastic and pays above-market rates, providing a significant revenue stream for impoverished nations.
The firm claims that every person generates 22 lbs of plastic every month. Based on that estimate, the plastic neutral subscription of $8 bucks, five goes towards collection efforts, with $3 funding administrative costs on by Humankind’s end. The result is a plastic offset for the customer, in addition to all of those toothpaste bits and shampoo bars they are presumably purchasing as well.
Anyone can purchase the Plastic, Neutral subscription separately or with other by Humankind products.
