Big League Chew Puts Female Player On The Package For First Time

Published

Big League Chew started as the idea of Portland Mavericks pitcher Rob Nelson, as fun, kid-friendly alternative to the chewing tobacco popular with baseball players in the 70s. Since their inception in 1980, they’ve sold over 800 million pouches of bright colored, shredded faux-chaw.

Since 1980, the brand’s pouches have featured big, bro-ish cartoon sluggers, but now the brand has added a female softball player to their roster. Available online and hitting stores in late spring, Big League Chew will now offer their “Outta Here Original” flavor in a pouch featuring a softball player.

This new design marks the first appearance of a female character on the packaging and will be sold alongside her male counterparts. Softball is a big sport in the US—in the 2017 to 2018 season, 368,000 girls played high school softball, and the game will return to the Olympics in 2020.
