Snack brand Kind has announced a pilot program in partnership with supermarket chain Whole Foods for a new paper wrapper for its best-selling Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt bars.
The paper wrapper, developed in collaboration with Printpack, is How2Recycle prequalified for curbside recycling. This new packaging builds on a 2023 pilot of paper-based wrapper Kind ran exclusively on its website.

“At Kind, we’re constantly listening to our consumers, and what we hear is clear—they want products that not only deliver exceptional quality but also align with their values,” says Osher Hoberman, CMO of Kind North America, via press release. “This new paper wrapper pilot is a direct result of that feedback. We’re proud to continue to lead the industry with bold, forward-thinking, and innovative solutions, not just for our packaging, but across our entire product portfolio.”
Kind’s curbside recyclable paper wrapper is part of the brand’s sustainability goal of having 100% of packaging designed for recyclability by 2030.

With a plastic wrapper, Kind could obviously showcase the actual bar inside, which, of course, isn’t possible with the new paper packaging. Instead, the paper wrapper features a photograph of the snack contained within and prominent labeling highlighting the recyclable paper used. Furthermore, a portion of the wrapper has a raw fiber appearance, reinforcing the material change to the packaging.

Paper-wrapped individual bars will be available at Whole Foods locations in Arizona, Southern California, Connecticut, Louisiana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and Texas until October 2025 while supplies last.
