Meal delivery services promise to deliver everything you need to cook a tasty, nutritious, and easy-to-prepare home-cooked meal right to your doorstep. By one estimate, the meal kit market will reach over $14 billion by 2025, with grocers like Kroger and Walmart eyeing for ways to get into the emerging space.

That said, meal kits are not without their drawbacks, primarily because of all the waste produced through the packaging. The boxes must not only keep ingredients outside of the “danger zone” of 40 degrees Fahrenheit, (the point at which food is no longer safely stored) but it must also ensure the contents arrive safely to their destination.
