Italy’s extremely funky wine brand Tenute Vignola uses a cool trick to land on a winning design. The first thing you might notice is its use of timeless, attention-grabbing primary colors, abstract, angular illustrations of royalty, and the variable hues of the top labels. While nju:design’s work for the brand looks great enough to speak for itself, the story behind the label makes it all the more appealing.
Tenute Vignola keeps up with the “drinking with the gods” trend we’ve been seeing so much in the past few years by drawing on the vineyard’s Sardinian heritage. The figures on the labels are references to Nuragic bronze statuettes, ancient renderings of stoic warriors in full battle regalia that served as offerings to the gods in Bronze / Iron Age Italy. While many spiritually-inspired Mediterranean brands have taking a more obvious route by referencing the Roman deities most of us learn about in school, Tenute Vignola takes a rewarding swing by going back a little further in time. It feels all the more on-trend for its De Stijl-inspired colors and textures, which is also definitely a thing we’re noticing lately.
