On April 8th, 2024, a total solar eclipse will be visible across North America. If you weren’t paying attention on that particular day in elementary school science class, a solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking the latter and darkening the former momentarily. This upcoming total solar eclipse will be the last visible in the contiguous United States for the next twenty years.
Since this astronomical phenomenon involves the Moon, it makes sense for the snack brand MoonPie to commemorate the occasion with a limited-edition “Solar Eclipse Survival Kit,” especially since the brand went viral with a Twitter, now called X, post clapping back at Hostess for declaring itself the official snack of that eclipse with the 2017 solar eclipse. The survival kit boils down to specially designed boxes featuring a black, space-like background dotted with bright, faraway stars. Each kit contains 12 MoonPie snacks in either chocolate, vanilla, or banana.
“The solar eclipse of 2017 was massive for us, but we knew we had to go even bigger this time,” Tory Johnston, vice president of sales and marketing at Chattanooga Bakery, Inc., parent company of MoonPie, said via press release. “It’s the day the moon wins, and the sun goes down! So we wanted to make something that got people as excited about the eclipse as we are.”
