Known in Quechua, as Lliklla, “mantas” are brightly colored knitted blankets that are worn by millions of women in the Peruvian Andes and originate from Pre-Hispanic times. Each one holds a story behind its textures, shapes and colors. They serve two main purposes, to keep the body warm in low highland temperatures, but also to carry produce and children.
