Black Rock Imperial Stout Pairs Well With Virtual Reality

Magpie Brewing Company and design studio, OHKO Champions, are two South Korea-based companies that worked together to bring a beer to life. Magpie Brewing Company's classic winter brew, Black Rock, is a dark and rich beer with packaging ominous enough to match the liquid inside. But, it doesn't stop there. It's one thing to have a visually descriptive label of a product, but it's another thing to use VR to bring it to life. So get drinking and get virtually exploring.

OHKO Champions (Seoul, Korea) and Magpie Brewing Company (Seoul, Korea) team up to bring a fun new life to their classic winter brew Black Rock. This rich Imperial Stout is brewed with vanilla, cacao & almonds and features notes of bittersweet dark and milk chocolate. We set out to give Magpie Brewing Co.’s Black Rock, a darker, more ominous life…with AR capabilities. Whether it’s on location or abroad, anywhere you see the Black Rock design you can scan it and bring it to life.

Black Rock has been playfully redesigned a few times to follow flavor changes, but for this latest version Magpie Brewing Co. wanted something more playful and mysterious with an AR option. We wanted to push the concept a little further - and what goes better with rocks and AR than space? So along with the new design, I created AR an animated poster, “Birth of Black Rock” to accompany the beer on location at Magpie shops and also in restaurants and bars around Korea.
