Although pizza is one of the worldâs most delivered foods, many boxes suffer from a meal-ruining flaw-the tops start to sag in transit, making contact with the gooey and greasy top of the pie, causing the ingredients to stick to the lid and wrecking a meal.
In 1976, Argentine Claudio Troglia designed and patented a simple, table-like device that sits atop boxed foods like pizzas and cakes, creating a barrier between the lid and the deliciousness within. Mr. Troglia did not renew the patent, and American Carmela Vitale later applied for a patent for a similar invention in 1985, ushering in an era of fewer disappointed pizza recipients and the proliferation of meals between action figures at tiny, 3-legged tables.
