The heart of the package design lies in the philosophy of Amiten Lighting Company itself: transforming discarded materials into meaningful and intentional objects. Because the lamps originate from repurposed risograph ink cartridges, the packaging needed to do more than function as a box—it had to embody the principles of circular design and material rebirth.
From the beginning, the goal was to develop packaging that aligned with the brand’s values of comfort, sustainability, and quality. Amiten—the Japanese word for “halftone”—is a brand I developed to translate these values into a unique lighting experience for any home, studio, or office. These same principles guided the lamp’s production, informing how each value was integrated into the industrial design process and ultimately shaping the identity of the brand itself.

The visual language of the packaging embraces restraint. Although risographs are known for their vibrant, high-contrast aesthetic, this system reflects the ambient nature of the lamps, relying on a simplified material palette, understated color choices, and intentional typography throughout. By rooting every decision in sustainability and design clarity, the project presents a holistic approach in which the brand, the object, and its packaging all speak the same cohesive visual and conceptual language.

The final solution combines hand–screen printing, custom die-cut cardboard structures, and modular labels tailored to each ink color and lamp base. Materials were chosen not only for their sustainable qualities but also for their sensory qualities. The cardboard’s texture introduces a tactile, approachable feel while maintaining the environmental responsibility central to the project.
In its final form, the packaging demonstrates how circular design principles can shape an entire product ecosystem, aligning the brand, the object, and the user experience into a single cohesive system.
