Ivan Garcia, co-founder of the design studio Futura, is a Mexican in Argentina. While there is a shared language between the two nations, the cuisines couldn’t be farther apart, something Ivan feels daily as he misses some of his homeland’s favorites, including spicy, flavorful, and powerfully hot condiments. That heat from peppers is less significant in Argentine food, and its chimichurri—while plenty tasty—lacks that punch from Mexican salsas.
Food is often one of the most substantial ties to our culture, family, and where we come from. Ask anyone who feels homesick, and they almost immediately cite dishes they can’t find in their new land. Garcia is no different.
