Sapporo Gets Into the Hard Seltzer Game With ‘Water Sour’

Published

The thirst for alcoholic sparkling water shows no signs of getting quenched, with existing brands continually releasing new flavors and others jumping on the bandwagon. Some, like Bud Light Seltzer, are beer brands extending into the category to serve curious customers. Japanese beermaker Sapporo is the latest to join the alcoholic seltzer frenzy with its new Sour Water.

According to a machine-translated version of Sapporo Japan’s site, Water Sour contains 3% alcohol. With the low alcohol content, the beverage promises to be dry and low-calorie. Sapporo explained that they’re bringing the alcoholic seltzer concept to Japan from the United States, where it is popular, “especially among young people who are wellness-oriented and do not want to get too drunk.”
