We’ve still got plenty of 2024 left, and even if Pantone is about four months away from pushing their all-out PR blitz for the Color of the Year, that hasn’t stopped noted paint enthusiasts like Sherwin-Williams from dropping their own.
HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams announced its 2025 Color Collection of the Year yesterday, “Naturally Refined.” Said to ooze “quiet comfort and luxury,” the ten shades’ soft and decidedly un-maximalist hues can really tie a room together, even without a nice rug. The brand also announced its 2025 Color of the Year, Quietude (HGSW6212), which is fairly reminiscent of hospital scrubs and the tasty McDonald’s Shamrock Shake.
Quietude does have some fairly elegant properties, and, according to the brand, the sage green has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it-blue undertone. Add it all up, and you have a color that lends itself to calm and serentiy. Of course, what should be notable to the most cynical folks working the design beat is how brands and color prognosticators still emphasize placid and subdued valium as everyday wallpaper for the soul. And, lest we have forgotten, Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year Peach Fuzz, with its warm and downy connotations, is supposed to be the vibe, when the current mood across the landscape is anything but.
