Designed for a premium gin bottle, the sculptural packaging reimagines secondary packaging as a permanent object. The bottle celebrates the island of Brač through a cap made of Brač stone and a wax detail, unique to each bottle, that replicates the wall of a traditional island stone house. Brač is internationally recognized for its luminous limestone, used in historic architecture for centuries and closely tied to the island’s cultural identity and stonemasonry tradition. The container embodies this material legacy in sculptural form, where heritage, ritual, and materiality converge.
The structure consists of two components. Closed, the assembly stands as a monolithic architectural form, fully autonomous within any interior. When opened, the upper component is inverted to function as a presentation stand, transforming the act of serving gin into a deliberate ritual. The two elements operate independently, yet together compose a cohesive spatial installation.
Multifunctionality serves both practical and conceptual purposes, redefining how one interacts with the object.
Longevity is central to the design. By transforming secondary packaging into a sculptural form, the design challenges its ephemeral nature, granting the object enduring presence in space and experience. Its sculptural exterior ensures autonomy, asserting permanence over temporality and subtly resisting the disposability that defines conventional packaging.
Evoking the gravitas and tactility of Brač stone, the object is realized in a custom-developed polymer composite. This material negotiates the tension between heritage and contemporary fabrication, preserving visual weight while allowing precise manufacture and balanced heft. The collaboration between s778 Heritage and STENA Projects unites seemingly incompatible disciplines to create packaging that is simultaneously functional, sculptural, and enduring.
Operating across four configurations — protective packaging, presentation stand, singular sculpture, and dual-object installation — the design transcends traditional packaging, asserting permanence in space, ritual, and material presence. By combining sculptural form, multifunctionality, and tactile uniqueness, the design transforms secondary packaging from a transient object into a form of lasting value and distinction.
