What of the humble tortilla chip?
Frankly, it doesn’t seem like much thought is given to the chips, perhaps because we mostly think of them as a mere delivery vehicle for dips and salsa. But they are the foundation of a proper snack session, and a tasty, structurally sound tortilla chip can elevate any occasion. The best ones can even stand alone, properly satiating that munchies urge.
Xochitl (pronounced “so-cheel”), founded in 1995, is a premium, craft brand of tortilla chips and salsas that counts late-night host Jimmy Fallon among its many fans. Unlike competitors who buy corn flour to make their chips, Xochitl starts with whole-grain corn that it cooks and soaks overnight in lime water before turning it into dough, where they are eventually baked and quick-fried. Those chips are then finished with salt mined from an ancient seabed located in Utah.
