Stephanie Chan's packaging design for Mojave Mallows is a vibrant and whimsical celebration of color and values. Focusing on the need for larger bag sizes, the design favors bold and bright colors over prominent product photography, emphasizing the unique hand-cut marshmallow shape as an illustrated motif on the packaging, point-of-sale boxes, packing tape, and bags.
The larger bags allowed for a playful approach with a swirly psychedelic-type treatment in vivid hues, drawing inspiration from nostalgic childhood candies. Furthermore, the design aligns with the company's sustainability commitment, using post-consumer recycled materials for all pouches, reflecting a dedication to eco-friendly packaging. Marshmallows are supposed to be fun, and Mojave Mallow's packaging system is injected with just the right amount of whimsy to reflect the product within.
The approach to the packaging design for Mojave Mallows has been rooted in color, effervescence, and values. After identifying a need for a larger bag size, we chose to favor color over the product photography pictured front and center on our initial mini bags.
The mini bags had led with photographic elements to demonstrate the unique shape of hand-cut marshmallows. We took this shape and celebrated it as an illustrated motif throughout the packaging, on the point-of-sale boxes, packing tape, and the bags themselves.
The larger bags gave us the opportunity to have a bit more fun. We puckered and skewed a swirly psychadelic type treatment with bright colors.
Color cues were taken from nostalgic childhood candies, and the bag’s final shape was inspired by our favorite artisanal coffee bags.
To reflect the company’s commitment to sustainability, all pouches are made with post-consumer recycled materials.
