In May, coffee chain Starbucks announced that it would exit the Russian market, selling its locations to local investors. The sale of Starbucks’ 130 outlets was completed last month to restauranteur Anton Pinskiy, with Russian rapper Timati and the Sindika holding company.
The new operators have quickly rebranded the coffeehouses, calling the new-old chain “Stars Coffee.”
Following a strategy similar to McDonald’s rebranding in Russia, the new coffee shop owners deliberately tried to provide consumers with some sense of continuity. The logo retains a circular shape, but instead of a siren, a long-haired woman is wearing a star-decorated ushanka. An attractive color combination of turquoise and brown replaces Starbucks’ signature black and green. Cups come similarly styled to the Siren’s, with the logo dominating the front but in the new color palette. Much of the beverage menu remains the same, with classics like lattes, mochas, frappes, flat whites, and caramel macchiatos.
