“In many dialects of southern Italy, the word Petra means “stone.” The name takes inspiration from the place where this fine rum with a strong flavor is produced, underground, in the caves of Matera.
Many meters under the surface of the Earth, between walls of bare rock, the distillation and aging process takes place, all under the care of skilled hands that have lived in these caves for generations. The sun-baked moss represented on the label is the same that surround the caves’s surface where Petra rum is produced. We can find this moss not only in Matera, but in every part of the Mediterranean.”
