Seth Rogen’s Cannabis Brand Houseplant Wows With VHS-inspired Packaging

Superbad, the 2007 comedy film focused on the waning of three friends’ high school days together, is based on writers Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen’s Canadian high school experiences, but it takes cues from other coming-of-age movies from the past. Of course, what high school comedy doesn't seem applicable for those who came of age in the 70s to now? High school was terrible for everyone, right?

That same blend of old school and contemporary relevance is done to extraordinary effect in another Rogen and Goldberg project with their Canadian cannabis brand, Houseplant.

Houseplant’s line of cannabis is back-to-basics, and they offer whole buds-a sativa, a hybrid, and an indica. Overall, the brand’s visual style is minimal, with colors corresponding with the personality of the bud. Sativas, known for their energizing effects, are identified with mustard-like yellow. Indicas, known for dark buds and calming effects, is personified by a grape purple. Hybrids, a blend of both sativa and indica, is represented by a lime green. Best of all, the monochromatic bud jars come inside a VHS-inspired color-matched box with a sliding sleeve cover, giving it all the retro-home-movie-feels.

According to Houseplant, they "have a sincere love for cannabis, and think it should be treated with the reverence it deserves,” and that means the company also supports several advocacy groups as part of that respect, including Canadian Cannabis Amnesty, Marijuana Policy Project, The Drug Policy Alliance, and NORML, supporting those who have been negatively impacted by cannabis-related injustices.
