Cannabis connoisseurs, in particular, those seeking marijuana’s positive effects on overall wellness, have long known that different strains of bud can have varying effects; some can energize and spark creativity, while others invite calmness or help induce sleepiness.
But most weed smokers will buy one or two strains at a time, and casual or new consumers are sometimes unaware of their distinct effects.
Aster Farms wanted to appeal to all cannabis consumers, whether they're a grizzled vet or a total newbie, so they developed Day to Night, a prepackaged set of pre-rolls made up of different strains with recommendations based on time of day.
The five joints come to a total weight of 3.54g, or a 1/8th of an ounce, the most common amount they sell flower in. Instead of restricting users to a single type of cannabis, however, the consumer gets a full sun cycle of pre-rolls in an eighth. The variety includes high and low potency strains, as well as indica, sativa and hybrids.
For casual smokers, Day to Night provides these consumers an opportunity to experiment with different strains to find the best fit for them.
Studio Paradise designed Day to Night, while Arizona-based TruPak produced the packaging. The dark metal tins feature a sunset on the front and a moonrise over the same landscape with a minimal color palette. Inside, the pre-rolls come arranged to follow the day from left-to-right, with each product accompanied by a description, sunrise, radiant, sunset, moonlight, and outer space, as well as an icon in contrasting red with a short description of the typical effect.
The joints sit in an insert which Aster Farms president Sam Ludwig says they plan to make compostable in the future. Finding equally sustainable packaging for cannabis is difficult in a strictly regulated industry, but Aster Farms is committed to making every piece of Day to Night packaging recyclable or biodegradable.
“We are a sustainable cannabis company, and with that comes challenges in finding materials that are recyclable, reusable, and environmentally friendly. Our goal by 2020 is to make every piece of the Day to Night pack recyclable or biodegradable,” Ludwig says. “Sustainable materials are available in other industries but are just starting to make waves in cannabis. Our intention is to lead the way.”
