McDonaldâs Canada has unveiled two âGreen Concept Restaurantsâ in London, Ontario and Vancouver, B.C. as part of their ongoing effort to source 100% of guest packaging from renewable and/or recycled materials. The incubator locations will serve as a proving ground for new packaging as well as recycling ideas and initiatives in a fully operational store, testing sustainability concepts and viability before rolling them out nationwide.
Among the items that McDonaldâs will test includes a fully-pulpable cup which uses an aqueous coating acceptable in recycling streams, wood-fiber cold cup sipping lids which are FSC-certified and recyclable, as well as wooden cutlery, stir sticks, and paper straws.
Globally, McDonaldâs has committed to sourcing all guest packaging from renewable, recycled, or certified sources by 2025, as well as setting a goal to recycle all guest packaging from every McDonaldâs store within the same time frame.
