THIS IS IT! DIELINE Awards 2026 Late Entry Deadline Ends Feb 28

Few design trends have a rapid upwards trajectory. We’ve seen trends like soft, gradient labels or frosted glass bottles come at us so quickly that it feels like they existed forever. Of course, they don’t begin without resistance or a cost-prohibitiveness, but as their star rises, the costs lower, and the copy-paste mechanism that dominates much of design kicks in.
And now, we’re seeing it with rounded tops, those balloon-like tops you can most commonly find on bottles of Cholula.
The idea isn’t entirely new, especially in the beauty space. In the 60s, glass perfume bottles often featured a bulbous, circular top. Pop art and minimalism were at the forefront of design during this period. But pop art’s themes of humor, vibrancy, and bright colors fused with the simplicity of the rounded shape converged in an ideal way for packaging to make an imaginative, creative impact while keeping with the current cultural wave.
