Hard plastic crates, the kind that milk gets delivered in, were generally understood for specific and perhaps sacrosanct uses, besides carrying dairy. They serve as a source of respite for kitchen staff on break and finally off their feet. DJs move their records from show to show in these crates, keeping the party going. Countless small dogs, backpacks, and beer have safely sojourned via bicycles cradled in such utilitarian confines.
They are most certainly not meant for dangerous social media challenges.
Unless you’ve been bitten by a radioactive spider or you’re a really agile cat, you are likely to fall on your ass and break parts of the body you’re still going to need later if you attempt the “Milk Crate Challenge,” where participants slowly scale a pyramid of said crates. With the Delta variant of COVID taxing hospital capacity in some parts of the country, now is a pretty bad time to test gravity with your face. Surgeon resident Dr. Mark Fleming II pointed out the high risk on social media, saying that “broken necks, backs, clavicles, ribs, etc. are not simple injuries,” adding that complications include collapsed lungs, internal bleeding, and paralysis. Plus, you know, hospitals have more than enough to deal with right now, like people poisoning themselves with horse dewormer.
