One of the hardest things about our newsletter only going out once a week is that sometimes the trends move so fast that I occasionally want to send out a mass email that lets you know what’s happening as itâs happening. Yes, you’d be annoyed, but at least you’d be updated.
That being said, by now, I’m sure you’ve seen the viral Rhode lipgloss iPhone case and the follow-up Body Vodka flask iPhone case.
Rhode’s iPhone case features design from Sam Sonntag, a multi-disciplinary designer, art director, and illustrator in NYC specializing in brand building, campaign design, printed packaging, and merch (Emma Apple Chozick created a tidy breakdown of Sonntag’s involvement on TikTok). He’s the current design director at Shopify, but he also previously led the brand design at Glossier, working on things like choosing which models appeared on the brand’s billboards or adding Glossier’s tiny happy face to the back of the packaging. He also designed Glossier’s Swiss Miss Balm.com packaging.
