In many wellness circles, peptides and their purported benefits have surged in popularity.

Peptides are small strings of amino acids, some of which we produce naturally, some we ingest from food, while others are synthesized. Insulin, for example, is a peptide, and semaglutide, which is sold under brand names like Ozempic and Wegovy. However, there are a host of other compounds that have become popular because they promise benefits, such as BPC-157, which is said to promote muscle recovery and has anti-aging properties, and Semax, a combination of seven amino acids with nootropic, neuroprotective, and neurorestorative effects.
