Mattel’s Barbie is an iconic toy. Ruth Hadler came up with the concept of an adult woman in doll form when she noticed that most dolls depicted children. Ruth pitched the idea to her husband, Mattel co-founder Elliot, who, along with the company’s board of directors, was not interested in the concept. Ruth would eventually convince Mattel of Barbie’s potential, creating one of the toy world’s most famous lines. The Barbie collection would include many accessories to accompany the blonde doll, including playsets like the Barbie Dreamhouse.
The Dreamhouse, first offered in 1962, is a toy legend and the stuff of Christmas morning dreams. Now, Barbie has teamed up with paint brand Backdrop as part of the playset’s 60th anniversary.
