A Classic Art History “Failure” Inspired the Divine Marble Design of NAI’s Olive Oil

Published

It’s hard to say where the motivational poster text comes from, but there’s an adage out there that cautions against giving up because “you’ll never know how close you were.” When the team at Antonia Skaraki were crafting up corporate gifts, they thought of how Michelangelo crafted the iconic David out of a piece of rejected marble.

Their NAI olive oil bottles look pulled straight out of the earth, each carved with a perfectly circular recess to fit its perfume-like glass bottles. NAI is carved in a soft, yet commanding font on the side of the marble, lest anyone confuse this useful kitchen ware for a decoration. Beyond being an especially beautiful olive oil container, it’s also an inspiring example of waste’s high creative potential.
