Luminous Design’s 25th Anniversary Gift Makes the Case for the Physical Portfolio

The luxury rigid box market is projected to reach $8.5 billion in 2026, according to Persistence Market Research, and Luminous Design just showed us why people keep falling for a great box.

To celebrate its first 25 years, the studio made 1ST25Y, a limited set of four handcrafted black ceramic vessels. Each one is drawn with loose white lines of figures wrapping their arms around their own curves, a playful wink at the line drawings Picasso painted on pottery in Vallauris. The mirrored silver boxes look like archive crates pulled from a museum vault, complete with cutout handles, a debossed 1ST25Y down the side, and a matte black badge pressed into the exact silhouette of the vessel waiting inside.

I love when a studio gives itself the same care it gives clients. It’s bringing back the physical portfolio, and I’m here for it. Right now, agencies are fighting to prove their worth against AI shortcuts, but sending clients something this slow, tactile, and personal shows Luminous is actually working to build relationships meant to last another 25 years.
