Approximately 50 million adults experience some form of chronic pain, and that’s just in the United States alone. Chronic pain lasts for months, even years, with seemingly no end in sight, and it can be so debilitating that it impacts a person’s social life, work, and mental health. But taking painkillers like opioids poses its own risk.

So do people with chronic pain just need to suck it up and deal with their suffering?
