Hey, Stoners, Can We Talk About How Unsustainable Vape Carts Are This 7/10?

July 10th, or 7/10 day, has become a pot “holiday” focused on celebrating cannabis concentrates. Think of it like 4/20, but specifically for dabs, wax, and oil.

July 10th or 710 spells “OIL” upside down. But the first association with the number with cannabis concentrate isn’t clear, though some attribute it to cannabis entrepreneur Taskrok back in 2011, according to an in-depth look into the new stoner holiday by The Leaf Online.

Regardless of origin, the idea took off. While dabbing concentrates in 2011 usually involved dab rigs and a torch, they can now be more easily consumed as concentrated oil vaporized, typically from pre-packaged and disposable cartridges attached to batteries. According to the cannabis trade journal MJBizDaily, disposable cartridges and all-in-one saw year-over-year growth, 20.7%, and 7.6%, respectively, in 2020. Despite the entire vape category not seeing the same proportional pandemic lift in the recreational cannabis space as flower and other cannabis products, likely due to continued consumer lack of confidence from the 2019 vaping crisis, stoners are still chiefing on vaping cartridges, especially of the single-use variety.
