In-house teams have their own category — and one award decided on sales data

Burn Rate packaging, first place in the In-House category at the DIELINE Awards 2026.

There is a version of this competition where in-house work quietly loses. It gets dropped into an open category, judged beside agency projects with a bigger budget and a freer brief, and the fact that it shipped inside a real business with real constraints counts for nothing.

That is not how the DIELINE Awards 2027 is built. In-House is category 10, and it exists so internal brand and company design teams compete against each other across any eligible market.

It is not a consolation category

Look at 2026. First place in In-House went to Runway’s in-house creative team for Burn Rate. Second went to the IHOP brand creative team. These are not entries that needed a softer room — they are the ones that won it.

The category is open across markets, so an in-house team working on food, beverage, beauty or household enters the same place. And nothing stops the same project also going into its market category, or into Brand Identity Systems, or Limited Editions. Each submission is a separate entry with its own fee, but one project can compete in several places at once.

The award only in-house teams can really answer for

Category 19 is the Designalytics Effectiveness Award, the only packaging award based on actual retail sales data rather than jury opinion.

It is also free to enter.

That combination tends to matter most to in-house teams, because they are the people who can actually get at the sales numbers behind a redesign. If you have a project where the packaging changed and the performance moved, this is the category built for it.

Two more worth knowing about

Design for Good, category 17, carries a discounted entry rate for packaging that creates positive social or environmental impact. And Rebrand of the Year sits alongside Best of Show, Editor’s Choice and Studio of the Year among the special awards — the natural home for a serious in-house relaunch.

Fall Entry closes September 30 at 23:59 GMT. Professional $385, Independent $275. The Designalytics Effectiveness Award is free to enter. Enter the DIELINE Awards 2027.
