Coca-Cola Turning To Returnable Glass Bottles To Stave Off Inflation

Recently, Coca-Cola has steadily rolled out new beverages, like the “pixel-flavored” Byte and “space-tasting” Starlight. But the beverage maker’s real innovation might be something that instead looks to the past.
Last February, Coca-Cola announced that by 2030, they would attempt to sell 25% of their beverages in returnable and reusable glass bottles, focusing much of their efforts on markets in Africa, Latin America, and the Southwestern United States. Now, Coca-Cola and its bottling partner, Swire Coca-Cola, will release a newly designed, refreshed glass bottle for the Hong Kong market. Consumers will find the new reusable and returnable bottles used for beverages Coca-Cola, Spite, Coca-Cola No-Sugar, Fanta, Schweppes Cream Soda and Soda Water, Kochakaden, and Crafttea, with more drinks to follow.
Of course, what’s surprising to hear is that the move towards a more sustainable and circular economy has plenty to do with inflation, as Coca-Cola cited that consumer demand could potentially slow down as the cost of, well, everything continues to rise (but especially aluminum and the other materials the brand requires for manufacturing and production).
