Ueshima Coffee Company Strays From The Norm

The rich flavors and blends of a coffee tend to speak for itself. Before we can get our hands on grounds or beans, however, the packaging design is what draws us in for the buy. Ueshima Coffee Company’s branding and design is not one of many words, but one of many textures and shapes. The Clearing, a branding consultant, was contracted to style every detail from font to word choice. Including streaks of calligraphy and ink blotches suggests the coffee is derivative of Asian culture. The color scheme only serves to further complement this theme, drawing consumers in with an interest for traditional, Japanese distillation and brewing techniques. 

Ueshima Coffee Company (UCC), Japan’s No.1 coffee brand, will launch to a Western audience at the end of January 2021. They requested brand consultancy from The Clearing to create a new brand identity that would communicate their origin and their unique approach to coffee: combining technology and craftsmanship.
