CBD usage rose 57% in 2018, and interest in the non-psychoactive cannabinoid isn’t going to decline any time soon with many folks touting its purported physical and mental benefits for common ailments like anxiety and inflammation, maladies often treated with pharmaceuticals that are sometimes accompanied by undesirable side effects.
This has created a “green rush” with many companies racing towards the shelves to satisfy consumer demand.
The supplement market in the US is loosely regulated, but CBD has a muddled legal status on the federal level, mired in multi-agency jurisdiction and varying degrees of legality on a state level. CBD manufacturers that want to stand out as a premium, safe, and legitimate supplement face challenges unique to both the wellness market and the hemp-based market. While interest is growing, there’s still some stigma surrounding anything cannabis-related.
