Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, World Business Chicago CEO Michael Fassnacht, and Department of Water Management Commissioner Dr. Andrea Cheng recently kicked off “Chicagwa,” a summerlong branding campaign that aims to raise the city’s water profile.

The Chicagwa campaign includes canned water featuring six labels designed by local artists depicting how living by Lake Michigan has impacted their lives, while creative agency Quality Meats developed the brand itself.

Artist Dont Fret’s label depicts Chicago’s iconic water tower, while Anthony Lewellen’s design shows a hot dog in a boat with a background of the city skyline. Wanting to thank Lake Michigan for its “life, beauty, and movement,” Ellooelloo designed one juicy drop of water. Joey D’s label found inspiration in childhood trips to the North Ave Beach and its original boathouse with two red smoke stakes, and Langston Allston depicts Chicago’s summer sunsets with two youths enjoying the season. Finally, the city’s Art Deco architecture is the inspiration for Kate Lewis’ Chicagwa label and reflects the luxury of the city’s fresh drinking water.
